There are a few different methods that you can use for this process, so after checking out this article, you have to decide which method seems easier to you and proceed with that. Another thing to keep in mind is that these methods work in a few different devices like Firestick, Fire TV, Fire TV Cube, etc.
How to Install Kodi on Firestick, Method #1
In order to have a Firestick with Kodi in it, you will first need to download the Downloader App from the store, which you can find here. While the Downloader App is downloading, you will also need to enable Unkown Sources in the settings of your Firestick.
If you don’t know how to enable that, here’s how you can do it. At first, you will need to go to the Settings of your device which in this case is the Firestick. Select My Firestick or the name of the device. Then choose Developers Options. In the Developer Options, there are two things, the “Apps from Unknown Sources” is the one you should turn on. While the first one is up to you if you want to have “ADB debugging” enabled or not.
Now that you have downloaded the Downloader App, and enabled Unkown Sources you are ready to continue with the process.
Press the Downloader icon on your home screen, and if it’s the first time that you open the app you will need to grant it some permissions. Usually, it’s just the accessing of media and files that are on your Firestick.
After you have launched the Downloader App, you can press the OK button on your remote, this will open the keyboard on the screen, where you will need to type kodi.tv/download, after typing that URL you will need to press the Go button, which starts the downloading process for Kodi.
After the download is finished you will need to install it, the screen with this option is the first thing you will see when you open the downloaded Kodi file. Press Install and then Done once it is finished. If you want, you can delete the downloaded Kodi file, to free up some space.
After you install Kodi, opening it is the only thing left for you to do. Go to the home screen of your device, and launch Kodi. Similar to the Downloader you will also need to give Kodi access to the media and files that are on your device. Once you grant it you will be on the home screen of Kodi.
If you don’t know what to do know, you can take a look at the best Kodi addons, which will make your experience better.
This was the first method on how to install Kodi on Firestick or another similar device.
How to Install Kodi on Firestick, Method #2
For this second method, we will be using an app called AppStarter, unlike the first method, this one takes a bit more time to do, but in the end, it’s worth it. The benefit of AppStarter is that once Kodi has a new version available you can update it pretty easily.
Since some steps are similar to the first method, they will be mentioned here. The things that you will need to do, which will be similar to the first method are enabling Unknown sources and installing the Downloader App. The Downloader App will be used to install AppStarter, for which you also need to enable the Apps from Unknown Sources as well.
In order to get the AppStarter app, you will need to type this: github.com/sphinx02/AppStarter, then click on the “Install” button and “Done” once the installation is over. You can remove the file, in order to have more free space, but that’s up to you.
Now that the AppStarter is installed, you will need to open it, so head on to the home screen and start the app. Once you are inside the app, you will see the menu which is on the left side. Hover over “Updates,” there you see a few different things listed. Find Kodi and on the right side, click the Install button. By pressing that button you start the download process, and once it is over the installation process starts. After everything, it’s over you need to press Done, and a Firestick with Kodi will be in your home. Now you can enjoy all the content that Kodi provides.
Now that Kodi is installed the only thing left to do is open it and enjoy it. Another thing to keep in mind is that inside the Updates section in the AppStarter app, you can check for updates and update Kodi whenever a new one is available.
This method might seem a bit more complicated than the first one but considering that this method will allow you to have less trouble in the future with updating Kodi, it might be worth going through this route.
How to Install Kodi on Firestick, Method #3
The third method that will be showing here is quite similar to the first one. For this one, we will be using the ES File Explorer, which is a very popular app, and a lot of people can be more familiar with it, which is why for some this might be a preferred method. Just like with every other method, you will also need to enable Apps from Unknown sources, so if you want to learn how, go up and check out how to do it.
Just like the Downloader app ES File Explorer is also available in the Amazon App Store, so just search it there, and download the app. Once the ES File Explorer is downloaded, open it and give the permissions it requires, in order to proceed without having to worry about anything later on.
Once you are in the app, you need to find the “Tools” tab inside it. That tab is usually located near the end of the left-side menu. After clicking on “Tools” you need to select “Download Manager.” There click the big + button that says “New,” there you will see two bars pop up. The first one is named Path, there you will need to put the URL for Kodi. The URL is kodi.tv/download, so write that URL there. The next one is Name, there you just put whatever name you want to call this. Naming it properly might save you time when coming back at it later.
After you have filled the two bars with the URL and the name, press the “Download Now” button and wait for Kodi to download on your firestick or whatever device you have.
After Kodi is downloaded you need to click on the Open File button, then press Install so you can have a firestick with Kodi. After the install process is done and Kodi will be installed.
Now that Kodi is installed on your firestick, the only thing left for you to do is open it up, give the request permissions to it, and start enjoying your favorite content.
As we saw this method is quite similar to the first one, with the only exception being the program used. Using ES File Explorer might be very familiar for most people who have had other experiences with this app on other platforms.
Here we saw some methods on how to install Kodi on Firestick. Now that you saw all of them it’s up to you to choose which is better suited for you. The first and third methods are quite simple and can be done pretty easily, the second one requires a bit more time but for the second one there is a better reason to do it.
As we mentioned during the second method that going with it, makes updating Kodi on your firestick a much simpler process. Since the alternative for the first and third method is just reinstalling the updated version, which means you will go through the whole process again.
